    Default David's Cookie Contest

Our contest is up and running!! I have to tell you that they sent me a sample of cookies last week (one of my SR owner perks--LOL!) and they were fabulous! The fresh baked assortment was literally like someone baked me a big tin of fresh cookies and overnighted them to me. It was like getting a care package in college. And right now they are giving us a 15% off coupon. And they have free shipping! And we are giving back 6%. It's a deal too good to pass up on top of the contest. And if we see some good sales from the contest, we'll be able to do another one!!!

Yay! Okay... so what exactly is a haiku? It's been way too long since I've done poetry!

That's what I was trying to remember as well. Isn't it a short maybe 4 line poem? I'm so bad at poetry.

    I think it's a 3 line poem. 1st and 3rd lines 5 syllables, 2nd line 7 syllables.

HAIKU is a form of Japanese poetry that was developed in the 17th century and came into vogue 200 years later as a way to express deep meaning in just a few words. It didn't hit the American grade-school circuit until the last few decades.

The traditional configuration is 17 syllables, broken into three lines. The first line has five syllables, the second has seven and the third has five again. It's as simple as that: 5-7-5. There are other variations, of course, but we're sticking to the version that was drilled into our heads in fourth grade.

    Here's how it works:

Twins in your bel-ly (5 syllables)
    Moth-er-hood is com-ing soon (7 syllables)
    Good luck, Ju-li-a (5 syllables)

A Haiku is a Japanese poem with a total of 17 syllables and three lines. The first line has five syllables, second line has seven, and the third line has five.
